Phoenix Event Reviews: Aeroplane Keeps It Cool at Shady Park in Tempe

That Arizona heat and monsoon humidity didn’t stop house music fans from dancing under the stars last Friday night at Shady Park. Metroplane – the collaborative effort between Alex Metric and Aeroplane – was set to perform at the Tempe venue for another great RBDeep set, courtesy of Relentless Beats.

Unfortunately Alex Metric stumbled upon some Visa issues, so Aeroplane had to fly solo for the Metroplane North American Tour. Sad as the crowd was for his absence, Aeroplane definitely held down the fort and it’s safe to say that plenty good times were still had by all.

This had been my second time seeing a performance at Shady Park, which looks exactly how you would imagine it: big leafy trees surrounding an open dance floor. The stage setup is nothing spectacular – what looks like a giant desk with wheels next to a few impressive speakers – but the setup feels much more personal and intimate than that of other venues in the Valley, which I enjoyed. The trees were also covered in white Christmas lights and it almost felt like you were in your friend’s backyard – you know, that good friend of yours who just happens to know a variety of popular international DJs.

It was a slightly smaller crowd than anticipated but no less energetic. The energy grew with each track during the opening sets – courtesy of Ceemoar and Dan Lunsford. The crowd was sufficiently warmed up by the time the Belgian headliner Aeroplane took the stage.

Thank you Amsterdam, that was my kind of crowd ! ? by @thisisowleyes

The volume of the music and overall energy level soared to sky-high levels. The outside air may have been hot, but this combination of tracks was incredibly cool, which kept both old and new fans moving all night long. Aeroplane left audience members incredibly satisfied on Friday night with a perfect mix of catchy house beats that made it hard to resist making your way to the dance floor. I know the vibes definitely lingered long afterward – it was another RBDeep experience done right.

Another fun Friday night thanks to Relentless Beats and Shady Park! 2016 is shaping out to be an amazing year: we’ve had a ton of amazing artists visit Phoenix and much more are still making their way here. Did you happen to catch that Decadence lineup so far?!

This weekend, catch another round of great performances. If you’re looking for some poolside festivities, make your way to Release Pool Party at Talking Stick Resort. Saturday is going to be a one-of-a-kind experience: The Back to Vinyl Tour featuring Bad Boy Bill, Richard Vission, DJ Dan, and Donald Glaude. On Sunday, Ingrosso takes the stage – tickets are available here.

Or sit tight until September, when Mad Decent Block Party arrives for two entire days of incredible artists – easily  one of the best lineups that Phoenix has ever seen. Grab your tickets here: one and two-day tickets are available!
