Maya Day & Night Club was the place to be on Friday night; I overhead one of the attendees refer to the line as “longer than Space Mountain” and one point. The energy levels were at an all-time high as soon as we had arrived, full of EDM fans, recently returned ASU students, and those ready to celebrate the weekend after a long week at work, all dressed to impress.
And why was the line so long? It’s because EDM producer 3LAU was here to celebrate back to school at ASU with his 3LAU Haus tour, supported by Justin Caruso.
The club was wall-to-wall with people while Justin Caruso provided the perfect party soundtrack as we’d finally entered the doors. After getting my obligatory vodka soda, I made my way through the crowd, full of others talking loudly and laughing with their friends. Dancers were twirling from hoops on the ceiling, giving the event some Cirque du Soleil vibes while everyone was celebrating.
At around 12:30 the lights shifted and the volume got just a bit louder, clearly indicating that 3LAU was going to take the stage at that moment. Excited fans began to hurry their way to the dance floor and those enjoying their tables turned their focus toward the DJ booth.
What followed was an all-inclusive set with a little something for everyone. Tracks from EDM favorites like Jack U, RL Grime, Ookay, and Avicii were mixed in with a myriad of throwbacks from Backstreet Boys, Blink-182, and The Killers. The crowd ate it up with tons of enthusiasm all throughout the set. The music sounded great and the lasers and lights were spectacular. And of course no night out in Old Town is complete without tons and tons of confetti, and a whole lot confetti was what we got, much to the crowd’s delight.
It’s clear that Maya knows how to throw a party and that 3LAU can provide the perfect soundtrack. It was another fabulous Friday night in Scottsdale thanks to Triyar Entertainment Group, Disco Donnie Presents, and Steve Levine Entertainment, if the confetti that somehow ended up on my apartment floor is any indication.
